No bookings today so I was looking forward to a day of practice and lesson preparation. I was very pleased with the amount and variety of songs I looked at as follows;
Tabbed the middle 8 to ‘Truly, Madly, Deeply’ by Savage Garden and the whole of ‘Hey Soul Sister’ by Train for lessons next week. Learned ‘Shot Through the Heart’ by Bon Jovi and studied a tutorial on Metallica’s ‘Four Horsemen’.
There were a couple of songs I wanted to include for lessons demonstrating the chord sequence but I knew they would also make great solo pieces which I could keep in my repertoire. They were ‘Is This Love’ by Whitesnake and ‘Alone’ by Heart. I often like to play a song at a wedding which the guests would not expect and I thought ‘Is This Love’ is a classic ballad. Probably best to leave out ‘Alone’ as it’s not really suitable! Both songs have terrific chords and added extras which make them really interesting to play. Have to admire these songwriters!
Finally, I rehearsed ‘Somewhere Over the Rainbow’ in preparation for a wedding tomorrow which I have been asked to play during the signing of the register. The version I play is the one made famous by Eva Cassidy. Not the simplest of songs to play but a very emotional and beautiful tune.
To top the day I received offers to play for Valentine’s and Mother’s Day for next year and also to play at a Christmas fayre in November with the offer of more work following a trial in October.
In all, a very productive day.
